Softball Splits Sunday Doubleheader at Fordham
3/29/2026 10:06:00 PM | Softball
GW softball split a Sunday doubleheader in the Bronx, taking game one, 5-4, before falling in game two, 9-6. The Revolutionaries moved to 16-14 overall with a 6-6 mark in conference play.
GW 5, Fordham 4
The day started with a bang as Ashley Corpuz launched solo home runs in each of her first two plate appearances, putting GW on the board in the first and third innings. The blasts were the 35th and 36th of her career, moving Corpuz into sole possession of second place on GW's all-time home runs list, trailing GW All-American Jenna Cone (73).
Corpuz's second homer tied the game at 2-2 in the third, but Fordham answered with a two-run home run in the fourth to reclaim a 4-2 lead.
A Rams error in the fifth allowed GW to plate two runs and even the score at 4-4, where it remained through regulation.
In extra innings, the Revolutionaries loaded the bases and broke through when Cadence Gilliland lifted a fly ball to left to bring home Emma Fales from third for the go-ahead run.
Fales returned to the circle in the bottom of the eighth and secured the win, tossing her fourth-straight scoreless inning in relief after entering for starter Chloe Greene. Fales allowed just three hits in relief, while Greene struck out four across 4.0 innings.
Corpuz was a terror at the top of the lineup, and was intentionally walked in all three at-bats following her back-to-back home runs.
Fordham 9, GW 6
Cadence Gilliland got GW started early in game two with an RBI double in the first, but Fordham took control quickly after with four runs in the bottom of the first.
The Revolutionaries answered with bases loaded in the third when Paige Hayward cleared the bases on a three-run double to tie the game at four. The double was Hayward's 10th of the season, making her the first Revolutionary to reach double figures in doubles this year.
Fordham quickly regained momentum with a three-run third inning and later capitalized on a GW error in the sixth to extend its lead to 9-4.
As they have done all season when trailing late, the Revolutionaries mounted a comeback attempt, pushing across two runs before ultimately falling short, 9-6.
GW's starting lineup went the distance in both games as just 10 Revolutionaries played on Sunday.
