Softball Splits vs. Saint Joseph’s Saturday
4/11/2026 6:16:00 PM | Softball
GW softball closed Saturday's home doubleheader with a 1-1 record vs. Saint Joseph's. GW won game one in ten innings, 2-1, before falling in game two, 8-2. The Revolutionaries moved to 17-15 overall with a 7-7 mark in conference.
Cece Smith was pivotal to GW's game one victory, as she started the game in the circle and delivered both of GW's RBI, which included her tenth-inning walk-off hit as she poked a single through the right side to score Ashley Corpuz from third.
Smith went 8.0 for GW in the circle, taking the Revolutionaries deep into game one while limiting the Hawks to only five hits and one run. Smith was replaced by Sophia Torreso, who locked down the ninth and tenth innings, allowing only one hit as she kept GW alive long enough for the win.
Corpuz and Smith combined for half of GW's eight hits in game one as they each collected two knocks.
In game two, a slurry of errors put GW behind the eight ball in the middle innings. After being tied 1-1 in the third, the Hawks scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a commanding lead.
Ashley Corpuz was a bright spot for the Revolutionaries in the loss as she smacked her league-leading 12th home run of the season. Corpuz finished game two with a team-best two hits, matched by Paige Hayward, also with two.
GW and Saint Joseph's return to the GW Softball Field for the series finale tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
