It was announced today by the Cayman Islands Classic that George Washington men's basketball will be part of the field for the 2025 edition of the event, along with 2024 NCAA Tournament qualifier McNeese State, 2024 NIT participant Middle Tennessee and Murray State out of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Classic will run from November 23-25, 2025.
"Competing in the prestigious Cayman Islands Classic is an honor for our program," said GW Head Coach Chris Caputo. "The opportunity to compete against three strong programs who are consistently postseason teams will be a great test for us early in the season. We're also looking forward to playing in front of the great community of basketball fans in the Cayman Islands."
GW is returning three starters and six players from the program's first 20-win season in nine years in 2024-25, having also played in the inaugural Fox Sports "The Crown".
Second Team All A-10 selection Rafael Castro headlines the returners after debuting for George Washington last season with averages of 14.0 ppg and 8.9 rpg, with the second-best, single-season field goal percentage in school history (66.0%), while recording 13 double-doubles.
A-10 All-Rookie selection Christian Jones led all A-10 rookies in steals and 3pt% last season, while Trey Autry - the long-tenured of the group - is back for this third year after taking a huge leap during his sophomore campaign, increasing his points per game by 5.0 to 10.4 per contest and improving his field goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage all by multiple percentage points.
The anticipated return of 2024 four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Garrett Johnson, after he missed last season while recovering from a torn ACL, and the arrival of a highly-anticipated five-man transfer class has the Revolutionaries currently projected as 61st best team in the country by Bart Torvik.
GW's schedule in the Cayman Islands is as follows:
Nov. 23 vs. McNeese State at 5 p.m.
Nov. 24 vs. Middle Tennessee at 5 p.m.
Nov. 25 vs. Murray State at 7:30 p.m.
The event will take place Nov. 23-25 at John Gray Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman, just minutes from the world-famous Seven Mile Beach. Travel packages are now available, along with all-tournament and booster passes. For more details, visit caymanislandsclassic.com.
