Reed earns Pitcher of the Year, First Team and All-Academic honors; Corpuz also named First Team and All-Academic; Heffley garners Second Team honors; Layfield and Todoroki tabbed to All-Rookie Team
WASHINGTON - Graduate pitcher Anna Reed was named the 2025 Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year, headlining a group of five George Washington student-athletes honored by the conference in its end-of-season softball awards, announced on Tuesday.
GW graduate pitcher Anna Reed headlined the announcement and was named the 2025 A-10 Pitcher of the Year. Reed also earned All-Conference First Team and All-Academic honors, completing a sweep of all available individual awards. Joining Reed on both the All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team is GW outfielder Ashley Corpuz. Named to the All-Conference Second Team was GW catcher Allison Heffley, and featured on the All-Rookie Team were GW infielders Kaylee Layfield and Emi Todoroki.
Reed, a graduate pitcher who hails from San Luis Obispo, Calif., claimed the title as the league's best pitcher in her first season with the Revolutionaries after transferring from Harvard. The right-handed stalwart started 25 games, amassing a 16-6 record which included success against the conference at 8-3. Reed finished the regular season with the most wins and best ERA (2.15) in the A-10, notching a 118/31 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a GW single-season record six shutouts. Reed had three nine+ strikeout games and held opponents to a .232 average in her historic season on the Vern. Reed joins Sierra Lange ('21 & '22 A-10 Pitcher of the Year) as the only GW softball players to win A-10 Pitcher of the Year. It is Reed's first conference pitcher of the year award, and fourth all-conference selection (All-Ivy First Team '22 & '24, All-Ivy Second Team '23).
A junior outfielder from Ladera Ranch, Calif., Corpuz mashed at the plate all season for GW on the way to being named to the All-Conference First Team. Corpuz led the league with a .397 batting average and a 1.397 OPS, with 15 home runs, 16 doubles and 52 RBI. With 39 walks and a .534 OBP, Corpuz was one of two players in the A-10 with an on-base percentage above .500, and she did so while slugging a league-best .863. Corpuz went where no Revolutionary had before this season with 15+ home runs, 15+ doubles and 15+ stolen bases, while also becoming the third player in GW history to surpass 100 career hits, RBI and runs scored. It's Corpuz's first All-Conference First Team selection. She was also picked to the A-10 All-Rookie Team in 2023.
Heffley, a graduate catcher from Lemoore, Calif., made a stop at Harvard before earning her second A-10 All-Conference Second Team selection in as many years at GW. Heffley started every game in the past two seasons for the Revolutionaries as one of the premier two-way players in the A-10. At the plate, Heffley finished 2025 ranked seventh in the A-10 in batting average (.363), which included the fourth-most hits in the conference (57). Behind the dish, Heffley carried a .991 fielding percentage in the regular season, which included 11 runners caught stealing and only three passed balls. Heffley was the primary catcher for the A-10's leading pitching staff this season, closing out her decorated career which already includes NFCA All-Region First Team ('23) and All-Ivy Honorable Mentions ('22 & '23).
A rookie infielder out of Yorba Linda, Calif., Layfield was featured at second base in every game for GW in her first college season. Layfield fit in immediately, beginning her career with a 10-game hit streak and earning A-10 Player of the Week in the second week of the season. Layfield hit .283 batting in the top third of the lineup with a .973 fielding percentage in the middle infield, playing an excellent two-way game for GW. She finished the regular season with 12 doubles - the third most in the conference - and 29 RBI - the third most on the team.
A first-year infielder from Anaheim, Calif., Todoroki was the other half of the infield's rookie right-side, with starts in every game at first base. Todoroki closed the regular season with a .283 average, tied with Layfield for third best on the team, and had 11 multi-hit games. In the field, Todoroki set a GW rookie record in 2025 with 340 putouts while adding six assists with a .980 fielding percentage. Todoroki and Layfield are the third-consecutive rookie duo to be featured on the All-Rookie Team. Â
The fourth-seeded Revolutionaries begin A-10 Championship play on Wednesday at 12 p.m. against fifth-seeded Saint Joseph's at GW Softball Field.
