Baseball Eyes Matchups with Mount St. Mary’s, VCU

WASHINGTON – After taking two of three in the Battle of the Georges last weekend, the GW Baseball team sets its sights on Mount St. Mary's and defending A-10 Champion VCU in another packed week of action. The Revolutionaries will travel to Emmitsburg, Md., on Tuesday to face The Mount at 3:00 p.m., then host the Rams for a weekend series starting on Friday. All four games will be carried on ESPN+.
The GW Revs enter the week 15-12 overall and 5-4 in the Atlantic 10. GW is just two wins out of first place in the A-10 standings after three full weeks of conference play. With series wins over Rhode Island and George Mason secured, the Revolutionaries sit in fifth. Fordham occupies the top spot in the standings with a 7-2 record, while Rhody, Saint Louis and Davidson are just behind at 6-3. The full A-10 standings can be found here.
This weekend's series against VCU will be "Decades Weekend" at The Tuck. Each game will feature various decade-specific themes such as videoboard graphics, music and other promotions. Friday's game will be centered around the 1980s, Saturday will be the 1990s and Sunday will be the 2000s. Mount St. Mary's hosts GW on Tuesday with a 12-14 overall record. The Mount just completed a series win at Merrimack over the weekend, taking two games in Massachusetts. Earlier this season, GW captured a 6-5 win over the Mountaineers on March 18 behind homers from Robbie Lavey and Jude Clough. That victory was part of a streak that saw GW win seven of eight games.
Ty Fredo leads Mount St. Mary's offensively, slashing .385 at the plate. He leads the team with 40 hits on the season, 10 of which have gone for extra bases. He's also notched 21 RBI and holds a team-best slugging percentage of .548. Nolan Book is batting .337 with 21 hits and an on-base percentage of .432, while Mateo Zippieri leads the club in homers with seven in just 78 at-bats. VCU, the defending A-10 Regular Season and Tournament Champions, travel to The Tuck after picking up its first A-10 series win last weekend against Saint Joseph's. The Rams started their conference slate 0-6, getting swept by Rhode Island and Davidson in back-to-back weekends. Against the Hawks, VCU captured the series-opener, 6-3, then secured the series with a 4-3 win on Saturday. Sunday's game went to the road team as Saint Joseph's avoided the sweep with a 6-5 win.
The Rams are currently last in the conference in team batting average, hitting a combined .231 from the plate through 27 games. Jacob Lee leads the program with a .298 average this season, notching 31 hits in 104 at-bats. He's recorded 31 RBI and an on-base percentage of .364. Nick Flores (.255) and Will Henson (.253) are the only other Rams hitting above .250 this season. Flores has four homers and six doubles, while Henson leads the team with a .410 on-base percentage.
On the mound, VCU's staff has a combined ERA of 7.14. Miles Garrett and Cade Dressler lead the team with six starts apiece, with eight other pitchers getting the nod at some point this season.
