GW jumped on top early in the contest, registering two runs in the first inning. Charlie Rogan got the scoring started after reaching on an error at first base, driving in Greg Marmo, who scored from third. One batter later, Jude Clough also notched an RBI, bringing in Ty Acker on a groundout.
Over the next four innings, VMI put up seven runs to open up a 7-2 advantage. The Keydets posted one run in the first, two in the second and four in the fourth, getting into GW's bullpen early in the game. Ayden Alexander earned his first collegiate start on the mound for GW, tossing 1.2 innings and striking out one batter. Tyler Blankenship also tossed 1.2 innings in that span, striking out three.
GW's bats came alive again in the fifth, plating three runs to get within two. Acker got the rally started with an RBI single to the pitcher, scoring Brodie Freker from third. Charlie Walsh put up GW's fourth run of the day, scoring on a throwing error from VMI's shortstop. Robbie Lavey capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to right-center, plating Acker to make it 7-5.
The Keydets once again answered right away, this time scoring one run in the fifth inning to push the lead back up to three. After neither team scored in the sixth, the Revolutionaries strung together three solid at-bats to load the bases with no outs in the seventh. Robbie Lavey made it four-straight GW Revs to reach in the inning with an RBI walk, making it 8-6 VMI. After the Keydets changed pitchers for the second time in the inning, Schwartz stepped to the plate and delivered a towering go-ahead grand slam to right-center. The no-doubt blast put GW ahead, 10-8, a lead they would maintain the rest of the way. The grand slam gives Schwartz a team-best 21 RBI on the season and his fourth homer of the year. He also leads GW with 50 total bases.
Gavin Miller was credited with the win, moving him to 2-2 after he tossed 2.2 innings and struck out five batters. Max Haug, Cade Davis and Andrew Cutler tossed the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, respectively, each going unblemished in their inning of work. Haug struck out the side, while Cutler picked up his third save of the season, nailing down the victory for the GW Revs.
