Baseball Completes Thrilling Comeback Over Rhode Island

Both teams put up runs in the first inning, with GW tallying one off an RBI double from Jude Clough. Sam Gates scored on the play after reaching on a leadoff single to begin the day. The Revolutionaries' advantage was short-lived, however, as Rhode Island posted two runs in the home half of the frame to take its first lead.
GW knotted the score at two an inning later, capitalizing on a double to right-center from Gates. Charlie Walsh scored on the play for the Buff & Blue. The third inning was all URI as the Rams put up four runs to take a 6-2 lead. Rhode Island extended the advantage to 7-2 in the fourth off a solo home run, the team's fifth long ball of the day and fourth over a two-inning stretch.
From that point on, GW's pitching staff locked in to halt Rhody's offense in its tracks. Cade Davis, Andrew Cutler and Matt Bruno combined for five scoreless innings and five strikeouts between the three arms.
GW cut into the deficit in the sixth when Ty Acker ripped a single up the middle, scoring Ellis Schwartz. An inning later, Charlie Rogan launched GW's first and only home run of the day to right field, making it 7-4 in the seventh inning.
GW's rally continued in the eighth when Cristino Tufano recorded an RBI on a groundout to short. Walsh drew GW within one later in the inning on a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Acker from third.
In the ninth, Rogan led the inning off with a double, putting the tying run in scoring position for GW with no outs. One batter later, Clough traded places with Rogan, drawing the game even with a double to right-center. GW took its first lead since the first inning one batter later when Schwartz tallied a single through the right side, scoring Clough.
Bruno nailed down the win for GW, tossing a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure his second save of the season. Cutler earned the win, moving him to an unblemished 3-0 on the season after tossing three scoreless frames.
