Rowing Starts Spring at George's Cup Sunday

WASHINGTON - GW rowing is back in the water for its first competition of the spring on Sunday, taking on rivals George Mason and Georgetown at the annual George's Cup on the Occoquan. Racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

GW competed in a pair of events this fall, the Head of the Schuylkill and the Princeton Chase. The former saw the Buff & Blue earn a pair of medals in the prestigious regional event, placing third in the Championship Fours and and second in Championship Eights.
GW also topped A-10 foes UMass and Rhode Island at the Princeton Chase in its last official action in early November.
GEORGE'S CUP HISTORY
Sunday marks the annual matchup between Georgetown, George Mason and GW. The Buff & Blue retained both the George's Cup and Class of 1998 Cup by virtue of its triumph in the V8 last year. GW has now won the George's Cup in eight of the 13 all-time matchups.
The Class of 1998 Cup is contested every year between the GW and Georgetown V8 boats. GW has broken a tie in the series with back-to-back wins the last two seasons, holding an 11-9 edge in the all-time matchup.
