PENNSAUKEN, N.J. -Â For the second straight year, GW women's rowing tallied a runner-up finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship, contested on the Cooper River outside of Philadelphia.Â
The Buff & Blue entered Saturday's championship seeded second in the three scoring boats and matched that expectation with heat wins in the V8, 2V8 and V4 in the morning preliminaries.
The Varsity 4 then shined the brightest in the Grand Final, securing the gold medal in a time of 7:37.268, more than 1.5 seconds faster than La Salle. GW's 2V8 kept the momentum going with a silver medal in the Grand Final in 6:43.787, four seconds off the pace of Rhode Island, setting up a showdown between the Revolutionaries and Rams in the final race of the day.
URI proved to be too much, though, in the V8 Grand Final, winning by open water over second-place Fordham while GW came in third with a time of 6:37.349. As a result, the Rams secured their third-consecutive A-10 Championship edging out GW thanks to the two gold medals.
Following the action, Benedetta Bonino and Carolina Hardin were named First Team All-Conference while Kelly Cleary and Kendall Dorn were selected to the second team.
In non-scoring action, GW's 2V4 claimed gold in 7:57.668 while the 3V8 earned a silver medal in 7:29.987.
