Rowing Wins Five Heats at Double Duels Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - Led by a pair of wins from its Second Varsity 4 crew, GW rowing came out with five race wins on Saturday afternoon on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

Facing primarily Lehigh in the morning and Bucknell in the afternoon, GW earned three wins against the Mountain Hawks, one over the Bison and one against Drexel.

The highlight came from the 2V4 which swept its two races, blowing out Lehigh by 27 seconds and coming back in the afternoon with a 19-second win over Drexel.

GW's Varsity 8 won going away against Lehigh in the morning by 18 seconds and improved on its time by two seconds in the afternoon, but fell by seven seconds to Bucknell. Other triumphs came from the 2V8 vs. Lehigh and the V4 over Bucknell.

George Washington now turns its attention to the much-anticipated GW Invite on the Potomac next Saturday. Racing begins at approximately 11:15 a.m. as the program honors its 50th anniversary in conjunction with the men's program's 70th anniversary.
