Walk-On/Novice Rowing at GW

George Washington University is looking for former high school student-athletes interested in rowing! Women’s Rowing offers an opportunity to try something new, with an opportunity to try out for the team and learn how to row.
George Washington Rowing is a competitive Division I program, which practices six days a week, competing in both the fall and spring, with the spring season being the championship season.
Exciting Items to put on your calendar:
- First Night & Org Fair on Saturday, August 23 at University Yard, H St NW between 21st and 22nd St NW, Kogan Plaza, and Potomac Square, from 7-10pm. We will have a table, spreading the word about Novice Rowing and answering questions! We would love to meet you, so please stop by our table and say hi!
- Information Meeting on Friday, August 29 at 2pm, in the Champions Club, Charles E. Smith Center (600 22nd NW, Washington, DC 20052). It is really important you are in attendance, to receive details surrounding the two-week try-out process, practice schedule, and hear from student-athletes currently on the team. This is a great way to find out if this is something you are really interested in exploring during the beginning of the fall semester.

Students interested in trying out for the walk-on team must submit the following six items to a coach in order to be eligible for tryouts:
1. Completing this brief form to tell us a little about yourself and help us communicate with you
2. A physical within six months prior to the beginning of tryouts with a doctor's note (see Tryout Information on GW Athletics site linked here). You can also get a physical at Student Health Center. Note - the cost is not covered by Sports Medicine). These notes can be submitted in person or emailed to rowing@gwu.edu or Yeiwah Brewah, Team Athletic Trainer at y.brewah@gwu.edu.
3. Results from a sickle cell test - if born in the US, you would have had this test at birth (if you competed at an NCAA institution, you can use those results). If you are unable to secure past test results, a new test is needed. The Student Health Center conducts tests for $5 (cost not covered by Sports Medicine), schedule appointments here under the Medical Services section. You can also call at (202) 994-5300 (option 2).
4. A signed assumption of risk form (available here).
5. A NCAA drug testing consent form (available here).
6. Fill out step 1 of the athletics compliance office walk-on eligibility confirmation worksheet (Head Coach signature required)
