Revolutionaries avenge Opening Day loss to Norse
CLINTON, S.C. - The George Washington University softball team improved to 4-1 on the season on Sunday as it blanked NKU, 3-0. The Revolutionaries wrap Opening Weekend tied with NKU for the top record at the Blue Hose Invitational.
Anna Reed was sensational on the mound for the Revolutionaries, throwing all seven innings and only letting up four hits. The graduate transfer from Harvard struck out five Norse on her way to her team-best third win of the campaign.
Offensively, GW was powered by a pair of newcomers. First-year Kaylee Layfield went yard in the first at-bat of the morning, putting GW up 1-0 and collecting her first career home run. GW was held scoreless in the second, but in the third inning after a pair of singles from Allison Heffley and Ashley Corpuz, graduate transfer Lily Travieso collected her second and third RBI of the season on a single that brought home both Heffley and Corpuz.
The Revolutionaries will now return to Foggy Bottom ahead of GW's Home Opening series next weekend against Holy Cross. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday (12:00 p.m. first pitch) and concludes on Sunday with a single game (12:00 p.m. first pitch).Â
