WASHINGTON - GW redshirt freshman Christian Jones has been named Under Armour A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday. Jones previously won the award on Jan. 6 following his career day vs. Dayton.
Jones continued his stellar rookie campaign by averaging 12.5 ppg, 5.0 apg, 3.5 spg and 3.0 rpg while shooting 53% from the floor and 38% from beyond the arc in GW's two games against Saint Joseph's and Massachusetts.
The highlight came in Saturday's win over Massachusetts when Jones posted an incredible all-around performance with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting (3-of-5 3s) while adding five assists, four rebounds and four steals. It marked just the fifth game nationally by a freshman this season with at least 17/5/4/4 and the first rookie with that line or better at GW since Terry Nolan Jr. in 2018.
Jones started the week with eight points, five assists and three steals on Wednesday against Saint Joseph's. He now has multiple assists and multiple steals in seven different A-10 games, tied for fourth among all players in the A-10.
For the season, Jones is averaging 8.9 ppg, 2.7 apg, and 1.8 spg while shooting 45% from the floor and 36% overall. During league play, the Stratford, Conn., native leads the A-10 with 32 steals and is tied for eighth with 55 assists. His 51 steals on the season are just outside the program's all-time top 20 and ranks sixth on the freshman single-season list.Â
