WASHINGTON – Following his career-high performance against Dayton on Saturday, redshirt freshman Christian Jones has been named the Atlantic 10 Under Armour Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Jones, who made his second career start on Saturday against the Flyers, was a spark plug for GW's offense early on, recording 11 of GDUB's first 14 points in the contest, including connecting on three jumpers from beyond the arc in the game's first four minutes.
Jones led all scorers with 15 first-half points and was key down the second-half stretch, adding eight more points to bring his game total to 23, setting a new career-best. Jones's stellar day was highlighted by his 5-of-8 mark from deep, which puts him at 43.9% on the season from long range, second amongst rookies and seventh overall in the A-10.
Jones, along with teammates Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (21 points) and Trey Autry (17 points), proved to be the catalysts in GW's wire-to-wire thrashing of the league-leading Flyers. Both teams entered the matchup 11-3 overall, and GW's victory marked the first time Dayton had been defeated by a team outside of the AP Top 25 Poll this season. GW has now won two-straight against the Flyers in the Charles E. Smith Center after topping Dayton, 76-69, on Jan. 21, 2023.
Jones and the Revolutionaries return to A-10 action on Wednesday, making a trip north to battle Rhode Island. Tip-off in Kingston is set for 7:00 p.m., with live coverage available on ESPN+.
