Tennis Downs Navy, Off to Best Start Since 2019

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The George Washington tennis team closed out its triple-header weekend in style, earning a 5-2 win over Navy to improve to 3-1 on the young season, the best start for GW since the 2019 campaign.
The Revolutionaries were dominant in singles action on Sunday, winning five of the six flights on the day. Alejandra Ramirez and Karen Verduzco improved to a team-best 4-0 in singles play this year, while Solange Skeene is also unbeaten at 3-0 in 2025. In the sixth singles spot, Ramirez earned a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win over Navy, while Verduzco edged out a narrow 7-6 (14-12), 6-4 victory in the fourth flight. Skeene picked up a 6-1, 7-5 dub in the fifth singles spot.
Vaida Matuseviciute and Madison Lee were also victorious in singles, both improving to 2-1 on the season. Matuseviciute claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win in the number two spot, while Lee won 6-4, 6-1 to cap off her stellar weekend.
The Buff & Blue dropped the doubles point for the second match in a row, but the pair of Lee and Sasinka tallied a 6-4 win in the second flight. The duo is now 3-1 in the season with all three wins coming in the second flight.
Head Coach George Rodriguez has guided the program to its best start in his tenure, matching the program's 3-1 start to the 2019 season. The Revolutionaries return to action on Thursday, Feb. 13, hosting Delaware State at 11:00 a.m. Follow GWsports.com for the latest tennis news and updates.
