Tennis Topples Delaware State, Moves to 4-1 on the Season

WASHINGTON – The George Washington tennis team defeated Delaware State, 5-2, on Thursday afternoon, improving to a 4-1 overall record, the program's best start since the 2011 season.
GW started the match on fire, sweeping all three doubles flights to open the day. Vaida Matuseviciute and Karen Verduzco secured a 7-5 win in first doubles, while Madison Lee and Victoria Sasinka captured a 6-4 win in the second flight. Alejandra Ramirez and Solange Skeene closed out doubles play with a dominant 6-1 win in the three spot. All three of GW's doubles pairings now have winning records on the season, with Lee and Sasinka leading the way at 4-1.
Despite dropping first and second singles, GW took care of business in the remaining matches. Lee cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win in third singles, while Verduzco squeezed out a 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 victory in the fourth flight to remain perfect on the season. Skeene kept the opposition off the scoreboard with a 6-0, 6-0 win in fifth singles, while Ramirez moved to 5-0 this season with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
