WASHINGTON – The George Washington tennis team came up short for the first time this season, falling to DePaul, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Revolutionaries move to 2-1 on the season, while the Blue Demons improve to 3-2.
GW's first doubles pair of Vaida Matuseviciute and Karen Verduzco took care of business, capturing a 6-3 win to move to 2-1 on the young season. Unfortunately, the Revolutionaries would drop the second and third doubles matches, relinquishing the doubles point for the first time this season. Victoria Sasinka and Madison Lee dropped their second flight match by a score of 7-5, while Alejandra Ramirez and Solange Skeene were topped, 6-2.
DePaul did just enough in singles play to squeak out the win, splitting the six matches with GW. The Blue Demons won flights one, two and three, while the Buff & Blue captured four, five and six. Karen Verduzco notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory in fourth singles, while Solange Skeene cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win in the fifth flight. Alejandra Ramirez continued her stellar senior season, dominating the opposition en route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Ramirez and Verduzco both move to 3-0 in singles play this season.
The Revolutionaries complete their triple-header weekend with a road match at Navy tomorrow, scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Follow GWsports.com for the latest news and tennis updates.
