
DeHaan Claims All-Around Title in Gymnastics Dual with Tar Heels

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Headlined by Delaney DeHaan's second all-around title in as many meets with an individual score of 39.075, the GW gymnastics team earned a score of 194.525 on Friday evening, but ultimately fell to the host Tar Heels, who came up with a 195.800 in the dual meet.
Starting the evening on bars, GW struggled in its first two routines, but Kasey Burke was able to find footing for GW, posting a 9.675. Rachel Katz followed up with another excellent routine, earning a 9.775. Delaney DeHaan earned a 9.500, while in the anchor spot, Lola Montevago headlined the Buff & Blue with a 9.825. For North Carolina, Lali Dekanoidze earned the invidual title on bars with a 9.900.
Moving to vault, Katz and DeHaan each posted a 9.850 to earn the top score of the night in the event. First-year Zoe Safran led off the rotation, tallying a 9.600 for GW. Burke earned a 9.775, while Montevago debuted on vault, posting a 9.725. Kendall Whitman anchored the event, recording a 9.825.
On floor, Kylie Kazmierski opened things up, setting a new career-high 9.775. Each GW Rev earned a 9.750 or higher, with Burke earning a 9.850, Brooke Izzo posting a 9.750, Deana Sheremeta earning a 9.800, DeHaan tallying a new personal-best 9.850, and in the anchor spot, Whitman earned a 9.750. For the Heels, Kaya Forbes earned the high score of the night with a 9.875.
Finishing the night on beam, DeHaan once again earned a new career-best 9.875 to headline another event for the Revolutionaries. The 9.875 was also the high beam score of the night for both teams. Behind the all-around champion was Maya Peters (9.825), Sheremeta (9.800), Izzo (9.750), Montevago (9.700) and Whitman (9.650).
Up next, the Buff & Blue will turn its attention to the annual Lindsey Ferris Invite, which will serve as the home opener for GW, welcoming Yale, Fisk and Penn to the Smith Center. The meet is slotted for Sunday, January 26 at 1 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
