Gymnastics Heads to UNC, Faces Tar Heels in a Dual Meet

WASHINGTON - After taking third in the Next Level Podium Challenge, the GW gymnastics team continues its season on the road, traveling south to face the North Carolina Tar Heels in a dual meet, set for 7 p.m. on Friday evening.
WEEK REWIND
In her first all-around collegiate competition, Delaney DeHaan headlined for the Buff & Blue, cruising to an all-around victory with a league-high score of 39.100. Kendall Whitman also tabbed a first-place accolade in the beam competition with a score of 9.825.
Other notable marks for the Revolutionaries included Brooke Izzo's debut floor routine (9.825), Lola Montevago's debut on bars (9.725) and Zoe Safran's debut on vault (9.700). Deana Sheremeta also started the season with flying colors, posting a 9.800 on beam and a 9.825 on floor.
A LOOK AT THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina opened its season in a dual meet at Alabama, posting a program-record season opening score of 195.225. Right now, North Carolina sits at No. 26 in the Road to Nationals poll, and ranks No. 19 in vault and No. 5 in beam. Three Tar Heels were named to the ACC Preseason Watch List: Lali Dekanoidze and Julia Knower earned the nod for the second-consecutive season, while first-year JoJo Valahovic was tabbed on the ACC Preseason Newcomer Watch List.
