
DeHaan, Whitman Earn Individual Titles, Gymnastics Finishes Third at Next Level Podium Challenge

Battle Creek, Mich. – Highlighted by Delaney DeHaan's title in the all-around competition and Kendall Whitman's individual beam title, the GW gymnastics team earned a third-place finish at the Next Level Podium Challenge with a score of 194.375, finishing ahead of Western Michigan (192.850), but behind Pitt (195.575) and Illinois State (195.100).
Starting the season on floor, GW was led by Brooke Izzo, Deana Sheremeta and Delaney Dehaan, who each earned a 9.825 on their routine. Izzo and DeHaan competed on floor for the first time Saturday evening. Kylie Kazmierski earned a 9.575 and Kasey Burke finished with a 9.550 to bring the Buff & Blue to a 48.600 finish after the first rotation.
Moving to vault, the GW Revs were highlighted by DeHaan once again, sticking the vault with a 9.825. First-years Zoe Safran and Natalie Thomas made their collegiate debuts, earning a 9.700 and a 9.550 respectively. Veterans Rachel Katz (9.600), Burke (9.725) and Whitman (9.775) each contributed to the 48.625 team score on vault.
On bars, the Revolutionaries were led by first-year Lola Montevago and returners Sophia Tyeryar and Katz, who each tallied a 9.725 on Saturday evening. DeHaan recorded a 9.700, while Burke fell right behind with a 9.675 to give GW a 48.550 score on bars.
Finishing the night on the beam, Kendall Whitman earned the individual meet title with a score of 9.825. Behind the co-captain was Sheremeta (9.800), followed by DeHaan (9.700), Izzo (9.700) and Maya Peters (9.525). GW finished with a beam score of 48.600 to earn the third-place finish on opening night.
GW will be on the road again next meet, heading to Chapel Hill, N.C., to face the North Carolina Tar Heels in a dual meet scheduled for Friday, January 17 at 7 p.m. The meet will air live on ACCNX.
