WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's soccer team is set to travel south to Raleigh, N.C., for a Sunday afternoon match against NC State. The contest marks GW's final non-conference regular season match before giving way to a full Atlantic 10 slate that begins on September 19. Live coverage of Sunday's match against the Wolfpack will air live on ACC Network Extra at noon.
BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN
The Buff & Blue returned to the win column on Sunday, defeating Drexel during GW's Alumni Day celebrations, 2-1. The victory snapped a small two-game skid which included a 1-0 shutout at Youngstown State and a 2-2 draw against DMV-foe Howard. The win was Head Coach Jeremy Williams' second at the helm of the program and came courtesy of a 76th-minute goal from Alicia Window which proved to be the game-winner. The goal is Window's third of the season and eighth for her career.
A-10 ACTION ON THE HORIZON
GW opens the 2024 Atlantic 10 season on Thursday, Sept. 19, hosting St. Bonaventure at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex at 3:00 p.m. The Revolutionaries will take part in 10 conference matches, with five being played at home and five on the road. Along with the Bonnies, GW will also host George Mason (Sept. 29), UMass (Oct. 3), Richmond (Oct. 13) and VCU (Oct. 24). The match with the Minutewomen will be the final as conference foes as UMass is set to join the Mid-American Conference prior to the 2025-26 academic year. On the road, GW will take on Saint Louis (Sept. 22), La Salle (Oct. 6), Fordham (Oct. 17), Davidson (Oct. 20) and Saint Joseph's (Oct. 27). The Atlantic 10 Championship is scheduled to take place between November 1-10 with matches being hosted by the higher seed.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
NC State enters the week 2-3-1 but will first host William & Mary on Thursday before welcoming the Revolutionaries to Dail Soccer Field. Most recently, the Wolfpack fell 2-0 to Rutgers on Sept. 8, snapping a short two-game winning streak which included a 5-0 victory over VCU and a 3-1 triumph against Charlotte. NC State is led by Head Coach Tim Santoro who took over the program in November of 2012. Since taking the reins, Santoro has guided the Wolfpack to six NCAA Tournament appearances, three trips to the NCAA Sweet 16 and one Elite Eight showing.
Offensively, the Wolfpack are led by Annika Wohner with four goals and one assist on the season. She is the lone member of the Wolfpack with more than three points on the season and also leads the club with seven shots on goal. Defensively, Olivia Pratapas has played all 540 minutes in net for NC State this year. She's recorded 22 saves, holds a save percentage of 78.6% and has allowed six goals. NC State's full team statistics can be found here.
