Revolutionaries Fall to Eagles in Four

WASHINGTON-Â In their final match of the DC Challenge, the Revolutionaries fell to the American University Eagles 1-3, falling 25-23, 23-25, 25-27, 20-25.Â

BY THE NUMBERS
Senior Salem Yohannes led the attack once again, swinging 10 kills and clocking three services aces in the match. First-year Cayla Cogan made her collegiate debut Sunday, registering nine kills and tallying two digs. Junior Ciana Tejada remained dominant at the net, tallying 10 kills. On defense, Taylor Treahy and Kelsey Watkins contributed four and three blocks apiece, and graduate Reilly Heinrich tallied 15 digs at libero. Feeding the attack tonight were Dilara ElmacıoÄŸlu and Abby Markworth, contributing a combined 43 assists.Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The Revolutionaries claimed the first sequence, swinging behind a .282 hitting percentage and making a comebacks from a five point deficit. In the final points of the set, kills from Tejada, Daubendiek, and Watkins secured a victory for GW.Â

In the second stanza of play, contributions from Cogan and Tejada put the GW Revs ahead to begin play. However, the lead narrowed, and with five tie scores, the Eagles claimed the second set. The second set was also GDUB's most efficient, swinging behind a .294 hitting percentage and five Revolutionaries registering kills.Â

In three, Daubendiek, Cogan, and Tejada remained active on offense, but with 12 tied scores and six lead changes, the Eagles claimed the stanza, 25-27. In the final sequence of the evening, there were once again eight tied scores and three lead changes, but the Revolutionaries ultimately fell  20-25.Â

The Revolutionaries will travel, to Ypsilanti Mich. to compete in the Eastern Michigan tournament. The GW Revs will open play against Oakland University on Friday, September 6 at 11 a.m.Â
