Volleyball Set to Travel to Eastern Michigan Tournament

WASHINGTON – GW volleyball heads to Ypsilanti, Mich. this weekend to take part in the Eastern Michigan Tournament. The Revolutionaries will open play against Oakland at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by a match against host Eastern Michigan at 6:30 p.m. The Buff & Blue will close the weekend with an 11 a.m. first serve match against Marshall on Saturday.
WEEKEND REWIND
In its opening weekend, GW claimed 3-0 victories over UC Riverside and Howard. Leading the charge for the Revolutionaries was senior Salem Yohannes, who registered 37 kills and collected her first double-double of the season. Her performance earned her A-10 Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Setter Dilara Elmacıoğlu tallied 64 assists over the weekend, while first-year Taylor Treahy made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, registering 21 kills and nine blocks.
ACROSS THE NET
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies enter the weekend tournament 1-2. Headlining the Grizzlies is graduate student Tyler Linkhart, who registered 37 kills across opening weekend, including 21 against Army.
The host Eagles are 2-1 after week one after topping IU Indianapolis and Valparaiso last weekend in the Hampton Inn Invitational. Sophomore Kaili Doctor leads the Eagle offense with 28 kills, while Ella Voorhees has fed the attack with 67 assists. Last year, Doctor earned Rookie of the Year honors from the Coastal Athletic Association during her time with North Carolina A&T State.
Marshall is 2-1 on the young season after topping ETSU and Elon in the Wildcat Classic. Leading the Thundering Herd is senior Brynn Brown, who claimed Setter of the Week accolades from the Sun Belt Conference following her performance in opening weekend. Brown tallied 74 assists and recorded a double-double, earning a slot on the all-tournament team.
