WASHINGTON - Head coach Barry King and the GW water polo team announced their 2024 schedule on Monday. The schedule features 23 regular season games, which includes six home games and 14 matchups vs. MAWPC foes.
The season kicks off on Sept. 7-8 with four games in Annapolis, Md. GW opens the season with a conference battle, facing MAWPC newcomer Mercyhurst (Sept. 7, 9:15 a.m.), before also meeting McKendree (Sept. 7, 3:30 p.m.), Princeton (Sept. 8, 10:30 a.m.) and Salem (Sept 8, 4:45 p.m.) on opening weekend. GW then heads up to Princeton, N.J., for a pair of games on Sept. 14 vs. Pacific (12:30 p.m.) and Harvard (6:30 p.m.), which will act as a tune-up for GW's West Coast trip the following week.
The GW Revs head to California to close out the non-conference schedule for a four-game trip from Sept. 19-21, which begins with a showdown in San Jose vs. San Jose State (2:00 p.m. ET). The trip continues as GW makes stops in Fresno and Merced, Calif., on Sept. 20 for games at Fresno Pacific (4:00 p.m. ET) and UC Merced (10:00 p.m. ET), before the Revolutionaries finish the trip on Sept. 21 with a battle at Santa Clara (3:00 p.m. ET).
In conference, GW is set for two games vs. each MAWPC opponent. The Revolutionaries will play home and away games against Fordham (Sept. 28, 4:00 p.m., away; Nov. 2, 12:00 p.m., home), Bucknell (Oct. 12, 11:00 a.m., away; Oct. 26, 12:00 p.m., home), Johns Hopkins (Oct. 20, 12:00 p.m., away; Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m., home at Long Bridge Park), Navy (Oct. 25, 7:00 p.m., home at Long Bridge Park; Nov. 9, 2:00 p.m., away), Wagner (Sept. 28, 10:00 a.m., away; Nov. 2, 6:00 p.m., home) and Mount St. Mary's (Oct. 13, 11:30 a.m., away; Oct. 27, 2:00 p.m. home). GW will match up against Mercyhurst for a second time at a neutral site (Emmitsburg, Md.) on Oct. 12 (6:00 p.m.).
GW returns key pieces from its 2023 roster, including graduate goalkeeper Luca Castorina, senior utility Andrija Sekulic and senior center Leo Lueddemann. Castorina, a 3x All-MAWPC recipient, returns for his fifth season in the Buff & Blue and is looking to add onto his program-record 1,059 career saves. Sekulic, who was named to the MAWPC All-Tournament Second Team in 2023, returns for his fourth season at GW and will look to lead the Revolutionaries' attack once more after finishing last season first on the team in assists (47) and second in goals (69). Lueddemann, an all-around center, is coming off a career season in which he finished fourth on the team in goals (38), fourth in exclusions drawn (23) and sixth in steals (14).
The MAWPC Championship will be held Nov. 22-24, hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md., where GW will look to capture its first MAWPC Tournament Championship since 2018.
