Softball Hosts Midweek Doubleheader vs. George Mason

WASHINGTON - The George Washington University softball team continues its homestand against local rival George Mason in a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch at the GW Softball Field is set for 12 p.m. and both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.Â
SMITH REACHES 100 K MILESTONE
First-year pitcher/utility Cece Smith struck out seven batters in her appearance vs. Saint Joseph's Sunday, bringing her to an even 100 punchouts on the season. Smith is the first pitcher on GW's staff to reach the 100-strikeout mark this year, and just the third pitcher in the A-10 to do so in 2024. The Atlanta product has just 40 walks to go along with her 100 strikeouts in 111.2 innings of work.
GRECO'S LAST 10
Infielder Maggie Greco has been on a tear offensively over the last 10 games. The graduate student has gone 10-22 (.455 AVG) with seven walks and four HBPs for an on-base percentage of .636. Greco has just one strikeout in the last 10 games to go along with her three doubles, two RBI and nine runs scored.Â
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
George Mason is 14-27 so far this season and 5-10 in the A-10. The Patriots are coming off their first A-10 series win, sweeping UMass in Saturday's doubleheader before falling to the Minutewomen in the series finale.
Rachel Warrens leads the Patriots offense with a .331 AVG, .878 OPS, 11 doubles, three triples and 63 total bases. Warrens, a San Diego native, has 17 RBI - second on the team to Maddy Meyers with 21. In the circle, Carly Cooper has George Mason's lowest ERA at 3.82, and she allows opponents to bat .275. Cooper has struck out 75 batters and walked 64 batters in 115.1 innings in 2024.
The Revolutionaries lead the all-time series over the Patriots, 23-19.
