WASHINGTON - The George Washington University softball team fell in the final game vs. Saint Joseph's, 8-6, on Sunday. The Revolutionaries move to 20-20 overall and 6-9 in conference play.

The teams found themselves tied 2-2 in the seventh after the Hawks scored two it the first and GW responded with one run in each of the third and fourth innings. Both of GW's early RBI came off the bat of Ashley Corpuz, who launched a solo home run - her third long ball of the season - in the third before driving in a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly.

Then in a tie game in the seventh, Saint Joseph's erupted for six runs to make it 8-2 and put the game at arms distance. The Revolutionaries didn't lay down after the big Hawks' seventh, scoring four of their own in a comeback attempt that brought the game-tying run to the plate, but GDUB finished one big play short of tying the game.

Rose Cano finished the game 2-2 with two doubles. Corpuz, Alexa Williams and Paige Hayward were each responsible for two RBI - both Williams' and Hayward's RBI coming on two-run doubles as GW fought back in the seventh. Cece Smith and Sophia Torreso split time in the circle for GW. Torreso got the start and re-entered in the seventh, allowing two earned runs in 4.0 innings. Smith went 3.0 innings, striking out seven and allowing three earned runs.

GW returns to the GW Softball Field on Tuesday and Wednesday to face a pair of DMV foes. First, GW and George Mason face off in an A-10 doubleheader on Tuesday (12 & 2 p.m.), before Georgetown visits on Wednesday ( 3 p.m.) for a solo non-conference battle. All three midweek games will be carried on ESPN+.
