Hayward Selected as A-10 Rookie of the Week

WASHINGTON - GW softball first-year Paige Hayward has been selected as the A-10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning. Hayward earned the honor after her breakout weekend against Cornell and Stony Brook when she helped lead GW to a pair of victories. The honor is the first A-10 weekly award of Hayward's career.
Hayward went 7-13 (.538) with a 1.384 OPS and .846 SLG over the last four games as she drove in six RBI with one home run, one double and one run scored.
Hayward was consistent the whole weekend, providing excellent defense in center field in all four games and backing her defense up with three multi-hit games. Hayward's big moment of the weekend came in game one against Cornell when she hit her first career home run - a three-run shot - to help GW close the gap and eventually take the lead and win over the Big Red.
Hayward is now second on the team in batting average (.324) and third in RBI (7). Defensively, Hayward has seen 37 chances and has converted on all 37 (1.000 FLD%), recording 35 putouts and adding two assists.
Catch Hayward and the Revolutionaries are back at the GW Softball Field today and tomorrow to take on Boston College and Coppin State. Both games have scheduled 2 p.m. first pitches.Â
