Matic is third GW swimmer to compete at NCAAs this season
WASHINGTON - GW men's swimmer Djurdje Matic has set out for Indianapolis, the site of the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, where he will compete on the national stage for the second time in his career. Matic will swim in one event per day at the IU Natatorium between Thursday and Saturday, with each session streaming on ESPN+.Â
'FLY TO INDY
Matic qualified for the 2024 NCAA Championships when he swam an A-10 and program-record time in the 100-yard butterfly finals at the Bulldog Last Chance Invite (45.10). The 100-yard butterfly is the same event in which he earned a ticket to go to the 2022 NCAA Championships, where he finished the event in 22nd place.
Matic has won gold in the 100-yard butterfly in all three of his trips to the A-10 Championships. Most recently, he is coming off a 54-point performance at the 2024 A-10 Championships, where he collected gold medals in the 100-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle and in four of GW's relays.
THREE EVENTS IN THREE DAYS
Matic will swim 50-yard freestyle on Thursday, 100-yard butterfly on Friday and 100-yard freestyle on Saturday. He is seeded 21st in the country in the 100-yard butterfly (45.10), 47th in the 50-yard freestyle (19.54) and 68th in the 100-yard freestyle (43.29).
