Two days shy of Senior Day at the Charles E. Smith Center Sunday (1 p.m.), Kendall Whitman put on the show of her career at Towson on Friday night. In winning the all-around against foes from Towson and William & Mary, the senior set career-high marks in the all-around (39.425) as well as on the floor, with a nearly perfect 9.975 as the performer of the meet.
Whitman's effort boosted GW to an all-time program record 197.200, just decimals behind host Towson (197.500) and well-clear of W&M, which finished with 194.825. Behind scores of 49.375 on vault, 48.950 on bars, 49.375 on beam and 49.500 on the floor, the GW Revs cruise into their final home meet Sunday with considerable momentum. Of GW's 23 performers who also competed in their respective events last Friday night in Baton Rouge, 21 bettered their performance week-to-week.
Other top performers Friday were Rachel Katz (9.925), Whitman (9.900) and Marlee York (9.875) on the vault, placing second, third and fourth respectively on the apparatus, Maya Peters (9.925) on beam, and Deana Sheremeta on floor (9.950), just behind Whitman. Anneliese Silverman claimed second behind Whitman in the all-around with a 39.400. First-year Delaney DeHaan led George Washington on the bars with a 9.825.
Towson was a familiar foe for George Washington, having gone head-to-head on three prior occasions. GW had gotten the better of the Tigers in the last two meetings, including a season-high of 196.625 on Feb. 16, setting up a major showdown with the Tigers at the EAGL Championships as the night's hosts entered the action ranked first in EAGL, and 30th nationally, with a NQS of 196.525.
Friday night was also the fourth faceoff with William & Mary for GW. The Revolutionaries topped the Tribe each time.
GW now welcomes #22 Penn State, Rutgers and Towson to the Smith Center on Sunday for Senior Day at 1 p.m. The quad meet will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Full scores for the Revolutionaries are below.
