Lacrosse Falls to William & Mary in OT, 12-11

WASHINGTON – GW lacrosse fell in overtime, 12-11, in its Saturday matinee to William & Mary.
GW led after the first quarter, 4-3, with three of those four goals belonging to Desiree Kleberg, for her second hat trick of the season.
In the second quarter, William & Mary tied up the score 4-4. The teams traded a goal each until William & Mary took the lead with an unassisted goal by Ellie Shea. Phoebe Mullarkey tied up the score again with a free position goal at the end of the second, making the score 6-6 at halftime.
Graduate student Emma Nowakowski earned her first hat trick in the Buff & Blue with her goal in the third quarter. GW and W&M traded three goals each before the Tribe took the lead with an unassisted person-up goal at the end of the third quarter, putting their lead at 10-9.
A goal from Amelia Moran in the first five minutes of the fourth tied the game, 10-10. Kiki Rotay added another goal assisted by Everly Kessler to put GW in the lead 11-10, but a goal from W&M towards the end of the fourth would tie the game 11-11 and result in overtime. An unassisted person-up goal from W&M secured their win in OT, handing the Revolutionaries their fourth straight loss, 12-11.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Stella Ray led the team in draw controls (6).
- Kleberg led the team in shots on goal (5).
- GW led in ground balls (20) and saves (8).
- Nowakowski made her first start for the Buff & Blue.
