Swimming and Diving Goes for Gold at 2024 A-10 Championships

WASHINGTON - Primed and ready for another shot at glory, the George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are headed to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championships. GW takes the stage as competition begins with three events on Wednesday, and follows with full days of competition on Thursday (10 a.m. prelims & 6:30 p.m. finals), Friday (10 a.m. prelims & 6:30 p.m. finals) and Saturday (10 a.m. prelims & 6 p.m. finals). All of the week's action will be streamed live on ESPN+.
MATIC RETURNS FROM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
GW men's swimmer Djurdje Matic ended his time at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha with three commendable performances. Swimming for Serbia, Matic opened his stay with the 50-meter butterfly, where he broke 24 seconds for the first time in his career to finish 29th in the world (23.97). Matic then collected his best individual result in the 100-meter butterfly, finishing in 22nd place (52.81). To wrap things up, Matic and his 4x100 medley relay team finished 18th in the world, 3.01 seconds off the finals cut time.
SEASON IN REVIEW
The Buff & Blue are gearing up for the A-10 Championships after another competitive regular season in Foggy Bottom. In the fall, GW tested themselves with three dual meets and three invitational style meets, highlighted by the women's "Power 5" win over Pittsburgh - the program's first ever "Power 5" dual meet victory. The Buff & Blue then continued their march towards the postseason in January, discarding Georgetown on Senior Day before falling in a hard-fought meet at Yale.

GW returns 11 individual A-10 Champions to the postseason. The men's team returns four individual champions looking for more gold: Matic (5x), Karol Mlynarczyk (3x), Philip Moldovanu (1x) and Connor Rodgers (3x). The women's team brings back all seven individual champions from 2023: Moriah Freitas (1x), Julia Knox (1x), Marlee Rickert (1x), Barbara Schaal (1x), Molly Smyers (1x), Ava Topolewski (2x) and Phoebe Wright (1x).
HISTORY OF SUCCESS
GW enters the 2024 A-10 Championships having swept each of the last two men's and women's titles. The GW men's program has won each of the last three, and six of the last seven conference titles, while the Buff & Blue women's program has won the last two, and three of the last four conference titles.
