
Volleyball Soars Past Saint Louis, Claiming A-10 Series Victory

WASHINGTON-Â The GW Volleyball team earned a four-set victory over Saint Louis Saturday afternoon, earning its third conference series victory of the 2024 campaign and moving to 8-6 in A-10 action.Â
BY THE NUMBERS
Swinging for 58 kills and behind a team-wide .269 hitting percentage, stalwart senior Salem Yohannes paved the way for the GW offense, powering down 15 kills, 13 digs and two service aces. Following behind Yohannes were first-year Taylor Treahy, who put down 13 kills, and junior middle blocker Cianna Tejada with 11. Tejada was also a defensive force for the Buff & Blue, registering four blocks alongside junior Sydney Stewart, who led the team with five. Starting setter Abby Markworth chipped in to feed the GW attack with 25 assists across the four-set affair.
HOW IT HAPPENED
To open the match, GW cruised ahead to an easy lead over the Billikens, only allowing two ties and two lead changes from SLU. As a group, the GW Revs swung .560 across 15 kills to Saint Louis' nine to claim the opening frame 25-14.Â
The Billikens were able to battle back in the second, challenging the Revolutionaries with 10 kills, 10 ties and four lead changes. In the final moments of the set, SLU gained momentum to push ahead of GW, 25-21.Â
The match remained tight in the third, with SLU continuing to push its momentum onto the Revolutionaries. With an additional 11 tied scores, GW was able to fight back and force extra points and strategically claim a narrow 27-25 victory.Â
In the fourth and final frame, the Revolutionaries only relinquished the lead once, despite each team putting down 13 kills in the deciding set. Saint Louis would motion to use both its timeouts, but the momentum stayed with the home team to claim a 25-22 victory.Â
After claiming its third Atlantic 10 series victory, GW will now hit the road to travel north to Kingston, R.I., to face the Rhode Island Rams in another A-10 matchup. The series will begin next Friday, November 8 at 5 p.m.Â
