
Volleyball Drops to Rhode Island in Four

Kingston, R.I.- Despite a third set comeback victory, the GW volleyball team fell to Rhode Island in four sets on Friday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
Senior Salem Yohannes remained consistent for the GW offense, putting down 15 kills across the four sets, while also tallying nine digs and chipping in two service aces. Senior MC Daubendiek followed behind Yohannes, registering 12 kills and three blocks at the net. For the GW defense, Cianna Tejada tallied six blocks, while Reilly Heinrich picked up 17 digs. Dilara Elmacıoğlu was GW's leading setter Friday afternoon, feeding the attack with 23 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first, GW stumbled early in the set but went on an 10-0 scoring run to tie things up with Rhody at 21 apiece; however, the Rams gradually regained the lead to claim the first at 25-21.
To start the second, GW went on a 3-0 scoring run and claimed a swift 7-2 lead over Rhode Island to start the frame. Rhody moved to tie the set at 16 apiece and quickly pulled ahead of GW, 22-18. The Revolutionaries went on an additional 3-0 scoring run late in the second to come within one of the Rams but ultimately fell, 22-25.
GW once again struggled to find its footing in the third but would strategically work to tie things up at 16 with Rhody. Going on an 8-1 scoring run, the GW Revs used its offensive power to pull ahead of Rhode Island to reach a thrilling third set victory, 25-18.
In the fourth, GW once again struggled to match Rhody's momentum early on but rattled off straight points to force a Rhode Island timeout. With three tied scores late in the frame, GW eventually dropped the match to the Rams, 22-25.
The Revolutionaries will return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. for the series finale with URI. The match will also air on ESPN+.
