
Men’s Basketball Gets By NJIT, 84-64

WASHINGTON - In what would become a 20-point win — GW's third victory by 17+ in its 4-0 start to the season - the George Washington men's basketball team pulled away from NJIT in the second half to cruise into a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands with a going-away win.
Despite seeing his double-double streak end at three, Darren Buchanan Jr. nevertheless showed off an all-around game with team highs in points (20), assists (6) and steals (4). Playing without starting point guard Jacoi Hutchinson, GW vowed to protect and share the ball, accumulating a 15:7 assist-to-turnover ratio without its top point man.
Five Revolutionaries found their way into double figures in scoring, with Rafael Castro getting it done inside once again with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Gerald Drumgoole Jr. and Trey Autry both dropped a dozen, while Trey Moss netted 10, in a game that saw GW use a familiar playbook, scorching the nets inside the arc (22-of-34). Combined with a 22-of-29 performance from the line, the Revs forced the issue and attacked the undersized Highlanders inside all night, getting rewarded with trips to the line by almost a 3-to-1 edge vs. the opposition (NJIT, 9-of-10 FT).
The road ahead stiffens significantly now with a major foe awaiting in paradise. Three games now follow in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the first of which is against the Big 12's Kansas State, Friday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
