WASHINGTON – Sitting at 1-1-1 in conference action, the George Washington women's soccer team welcomes UMass to The Vern on Thursday, then travels to Philly for a Sunday match at La Salle. Thursday's contest with the Minutewomen is set for 3:00 p.m., while Sunday has a scheduled kick time of 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.
A-10 STANDINGS UPDATE
Entering the third full week of conference action, GW currently sits ninth in the Atlantic 10 standings. GDUB enjoyed an early bye in the conference schedule last week, so the Revolutionaries currently have one less match played than most other teams in the A-10. With the top eight teams advancing to the Atlantic 10 Championship at the end of the regular season, GW is just half a game out of the final playoff spot, which is currently occupied by La Salle with a 1-1-2 record. Up-to-date A-10 standings can be found here.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN
UMass, who makes its final trip to GW as a member of the A-10, enters the week with an 8-3-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play. The Minutewomen have tallied victories over A-10 foes St. Bonaventure, Fordham and Rhode Island, but suffered a 1-0 setback against Saint Louis earlier this year. UMass is led by Head Coach Jason Dowaik, who's in his seventh season with the program.
Offensively, UMass is paced by Bella Recinos, who leads the team with five goals and 12 total points. Recinos has 26 shots on the year which also leads the program, putting 11 of those on target. Chandler Pedolzky is just behind with four goals and 11 points, while Ashley Lamond has three goals and seven total points. Bella Mendoza has played in each match for UMass as the team's keeper. She's recorded 38 saves in 2024 and a 79.2% save percentage. Mendoza has six clean sheets this season as well.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
The Explorers, who enter the week 6-2-4 overall, travel to the DC area on Thursday to face George Mason before hosting the Revolutionaries back in Philadelphia over the weekend. La Salle, whose lone conference loss came in a 1-0 defeat at Rhode Island, is led by long-time Head Coach Paul Royal. Royal, who's in his 21st season with the Explorers, has led the program to five NCAA Tournament appearances and won the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year award on four occasions.
On the pitch, La Salle's offense is led by Haley Gschrey with seven goals and 18 points. Gschrey has 40 shots on the season, which ranks second in the conference and has put 17 of them on goal. Ricshya Walker has five goals and 12 points for the Explorers this season, while Justyce Hollenbach has two goals and a team-high four assists. Defensively, Michela Auguardo has started all 12 games in net. She has 42 saves this season and a save percentage of 77.8%. Auguardo has recorded four shutouts as well.
