First-year makes Mid-Atlantic Second Team as pitcher/utility

WASHINGTON - After a standout rookie season as GW's ace and one of the team's top batters, first-year dual-threat Rose Cano has been selected to the NFCA All-Region Second Team in the Mid-Atlantic region as a pitcher/utility, the NFCA announced on Thursday.

Cano was among the A-10's top pitchers this season, ranking fourth in total wins (14) and eighth in ERA (2.81). Her ERA was the second-best all-time for a GW rookie pitcher, and her 14 wins landed her in 7th on GW's all-time single-season wins list.

The Long Beach, Calif., native also made her presence felt at the plate this season with GW's second highest batting average (.287). Cano tallied 35 hits on the season, with eight doubles, eight RBI and nine runs scored.

Cano is now eligible for NFCA All-American voting, and she adds the All-Region accolade to her A-10 All-Rookie Team selection.
