GW celebrates both Alumnae Day and Senior Day this weekend
WASHINGTON - After closing its nine-game road swing with a 2-1 victory over Morgan State, GW softball returns home for an eventful weekend at the GW Softball Field. GW will celebrate Alumnae Day on Saturday and Senior Day on Sunday as it hosts St. Bonaventure for a pivotal three-game A-10 series. Saturday's doubleheader (11 a.m. & 1 p.m.)Â will be streamed on ESPN3, while Sunday's contest (12 p.m.)Â will be available on ESPN+.Â
DOWN THE STRETCHÂ
GW has three A-10 series remaining on the schedule: St. Bonaventure, UMass and Fordham. The Colonials are currently on the outside looking in on the A-10 postseason tournament, but have the opportunity to rise into postseason contention. All three remaining series are against teams that also have work to do to earn a postseason bid, so it will be a fight to the finish in the final three weeks of the regular season.Â
THANK YOU SENIORS
Five seniors and graduate students will be honored ahead of Sunday's game in a Senior Day ceremony: Daniella Wilson, Darbie Stancil, Arizona Ritchie, Valentina Perrone and Mia Parker. From a graduate transfer to a five-year contributor and everywhere in between, this group of dynamic student-athletes includes key contributors to this year's team and teams in years past.
Parker is the longest-tenured member of the GW softball program and brings a wealth of leadership and experience to the dugout.Â
Wilson, Perrone and Stancil all joined the team in 2020 as first-years and have each earned starting roles at different points in their careers. Stancil was a mainstay in the outfield last season, while Perrone earned over 30 starts behind home plate. Wilson has matched her career high with 10 starts this season playing at second base and in the outfield.
Ritchie joined the program this season after playing four years at UVA and made an immediate impact. Ritchie has occupied the leadoff role for most of the season and has done so with a team-high .322 batting average. Â
WELCOME BACK ALUMNI
GW welcomes alumni of the GW softball program back to The Vern on Saturday for Alumnae Day. Alumni will be welcomed before the first game with an on-field recognition along with a special alumni first pitch.
HISTORY AGAINST ST. BONAVENTURE
The Buff and Blue hold a 23-13 advantage in the all-time series against St. Bonaventure and ride a 10-game win streak heading into this weekend. The two programs last met in March 2022, when GW swept St. Bonaventure with three run-rule victories.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
St. Bonaventure enters the weekend with a 9-27-1 record, including a 4-13 mark in the A-10. The Bonnies are most recently coming off losses to Niagara in their midweek doubleheader.
Brooke Bobbey hits leadoff for the Bonnies lineup and owns a team-best .337 batting average. Emily Phelan leads St. Bonaventure on the mound with a 4.64 ERA and 8-16 record.Â
