Baseball Follows Familiar Script in Late-Innings Loss

ARLINGTON, VAÂ - George Washington baseball got another strong start Sunday, as it did on Saturday, this time authored by junior righty Chris Kahler. The native Floridian tossed six innings of one-run ball, striking out seven, and left with a 2-1 lead courtesy of a Bryan Belo RBI single in the bottom of the second and a solo blast off the bat of Steve DiTomaso in the last of the fifth.Â
Kahler was reached for just the one run on a solo shot by Niagara in the sixth, but escaped the inning otherwise unscathed. However, two Purple Eagle runs in the seventh pushed the Western New Yorkers ahead, and a run in the ninth tacked on some insurance while the Niagara pen held the Buff & Blue bats off the scoreboard in the final four innings.
Belo returned to the lineup at shortstop for the first time since last Saturday vs. Binghamton and got GW on the board first. Meanwhile, Robby Wacker was back at the hot corner after also missing the last week-plus due to injury, and earned himself three base hits.
The schedule gets no easier for GW, as Tuesday takes the team to College Park for a showdown with the Terps at 4 p.m.Â
