Buff & Blue can lock up top-7 seed with win vs. Wildcats
WASHINGTON - With two games remaining in the regular season, GW men's basketball treks to Davidson for the first time since 2019 in search of their first road win against the Wildcats since 1966. Tip at Belk Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR CALIBER SEASON FOR JBIV
James Bishop IV has upped his torrid pace recently, averaging 25.5 ppg and 5.3 apg over his last four contests following his 29 points and nine assists vs. La Salle. Saturday was his NCAA-leading 10th game of the season with at least 25 points and five assists. No other player in the country has more than eight such contests.
Bishop has scored 626 points this season, the seventh-most in a single season at GW and far-and-away the A-10 leader. He is just the second player ever at GW to register 600+ points and 150+ assists in the same season (Shawnta Rogers, 1998-99) and the first in the A-10 since T.J. Cline and Jaylen Adams in 2016-17.
Bishop is 10th in the nation at 21.6 ppg. He will be the first GW player to lead the A-10 in scoring since SirValiant Brown in 1999-00. Additionally, the Baltimore native is third in the A-10, and 34th nationally, with 5.2 apg, surpassing his previous career high of 5.1 in 2020-21. His 151 assists this season are the ninth-most in a season in program history and 11 shy of moving into the top five.

JOINING THE HUNT
Senior Hunter Dean has posted back-to-back career-high efforts, scoring 17 with 12 rebounds at Rhode Island before notching his first career 20-point game vs. La Salle Saturday with 21 points. For his efforts, Dean earned a spot on the A-10's weekly honor roll announced on Monday.
Dean is averaging a double-double in the last two contests at 19.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg while shooting an astounding 82.4% (14/17) from the field and 71.4% (10/14) from the free throw line. The Mandeville, La., product has reached double figures 10 times this season after doing so just four times in his first three seasons (all last year). He is 2nd in the A-10 among qualifiers, shooting 66.7% this year.
A WIN ON WEDNESDAY WOULD...
- lock up a first-round bye in next week's Atlantic 10 Championship and secure the Colonials a top-seven seed for the second-straight season.
- give GW its most wins in a season (16) since posting 20 in 2016-17. GW's 15 wins are already the most since 2017-18.
- clinch GW's first season with at least 10 A-10 wins and first winning A-10 record since 2016-17 (10-8).
- assure GW of at least a .500 record overall for the first time since 2016-17.
- give GW five road wins for the first time since 2016-17 and would be GW's fifth road win against A-10 competition, its most since winning five in 2015-16.
- be GW's first four-game winning streak since Feb. 19-March 9, 2017.
A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS
Davidson enters Wednesday much like GW, having won three-straight games and playing the best basketball of its season. The Wildcats have contended with the league's hardest schedule, having played each of the league's current top-four teams twice.
Foster Loyer has been the primary catalyst this season for Davidson, ranking eighth in the A-10 with 16.0 ppg. He's also fourth in the loop with 4.5 assists per game and is the conference's top free throw shooter at 91.7%. Sam Mennenga has enjoyed a breakout year, putting up 15.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg to rank 11th and eighth, respectively, in the A-10.
Wednesday will be a clash of styles as the Wildcats play at the slowest tempo in the A-10 with just 65 possessions per game, compared to GW who tops more than 71 possessions per contest in league play.
