Senior guard goes over 25 for fourth-straight game, pushes GW to fourth-straight win
DAVIDSON, N.C. - Facing a tie game with just under four minutes remaining, GW men's basketball turned to the weapon no other team in the Atlantic 10 has - James Bishop IV. The senior guard scored 11 consecutive points in the final 3:14 lifting GW to a thrilling 75-70 road win at Davidson.
Bishop's heroics gave GW a fourth-straight win and its 10th conference triumph, both occurring for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign. The Colonials' 16th win was also the most since that same year.
GW trailed by as many as nine, 46-37, early in the second half, but turned on the jets by getting to the rim with relative ease. The Buff & Blue took its first lead since the opening basket of the game on a pair of Brendan Adams free throws with just over eight minutes remaining.
The Colonials would never trail again, but twice saw the host Wildcats rally from five-point deficits.
With the game tied at 65 and less than 90 seconds remaining, Bishop hit yet another contested runner, and after a stop on the ensuing possession scored on a jumper from the lane to put GW up by four inside the final minute. Free throws held the Wildcats at bay as the Buff & Blue finished off the five-point win.
Bishop scored 21 of his game-high 26 points after intermission, posting his fourth-straight game with more than 25 points. But it wasn't just Bishop as all five starters scored in double figures with Brendan Adams scoring 15 and Maximus Edwards completing the guard trio with 10 points.
Ricky Lindo Jr. held down the front court with his second-straight double-double, and third in the last four games, with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter Dean reached double digits for the third-straight contest, finishing a rebound shy of a double-double himself with 11 points and nine rebounds.
After a poor shooting first half, GW shot 57% from the field in the second half and ended up at 47% for the game. The Buff & Blue also did a phenomenal job defensively, limiting the Wildcats to just 40% and leading scorer Foster Loyer, on his senior night, to 16 points on 6-of-20 shooting.
Assured of earning either the ffith, sixth or seventh seed in next week's Atlantic 10 Championship, GW's final test of the regular season is A-10 regular season champ VCU visiting the Smith Center on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 4:30 on USA Network. Prior to the game, GW will honor eight seniors as part of Senior Day with a ceremony beginning approximately at 4:15.
