
Gymnastics Hosts Sip & Flip on Friday, Visits Towson on Sunday

GW welcomes Western Michigan, Fisk, Bowling Green and Ursinus on Friday
WASHINGTON – GW gymnastics will host Western Michigan, Fisk, Bowling Green and Ursinus for its Sip & Flip meet on Friday at 7 p.m. The first 500 fans will receive a GW gymnastics cup, with tickets available here. Live coverage of the meet will be available on ESPN+ with Christina Chauvenet on the call.
The Buff & Blue will then travel to Towson on Sunday for a 1 p.m. quad meet with William & Mary and Fisk.
IN THE COMMUNITYÂ
At each home meet this season, Cards for Hospitalized Kids will set up a station where fans can create and decorate cards for pediatric hospital patients nationwide. Materials and a box for distribution will be set up outside the box office. Follow Cards For Hospitalized Kids on social media to learn more about the organization and learn how to make an impact.Â
WELCOMING FISKÂ
George Washington is proud to welcome Fisk University to the Smith Center on Friday. Fisk is the first Historically Black College or University to have a women's collegiate gymnastics team. Under the direction of head coach Corrine Tarver, the first Black gymnast to win an NCAA all-around title in 1989, the program quickly developed last spring. The 15-gymnast team is competing in its first season and is the first HBCU to compete at the NCAA level.
ABOUT LAST WEEKENDÂ
Prior to hitting its season-high at Temple on Sunday, GW placed first in its annual Pink Meet on Friday with a then-season-high 195.975. The Buff & Blue broke the 196.000 threshold on Sunday with a 196.075 in their second-place finish in Philadelphia.
On Friday, Deja Chambliss was named vault champion for the fifth-straight meet and topped the podium in the all-around with a 39.200.
On Sunday, Libby Garfoot was named co-champion on bars, matching her career-high of 9.900. Chambliss tied for first overall on floor with a season-high 9.925.
AAI NOMINEEÂ
Chambliss was recognized on the American Athletic Inc.'s (AAI) nomination list for the 2023 AAI Award, presented to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country. NCAA head coaches will vote on the award, with a list of six finalists forthcoming. The list of all nominees can be found here.
