Women’s Soccer Continues A-10 Play with Duquesne, George Mason

WASHINGTON – Following an eight-day break from action, the George Washington women's soccer team will hit the road for two A-10 matches this week. The Revolutionaries will battle Duquesne at 7 p.m. on Thursday, then take on nearby rival George Mason on Sunday at 5 p.m. Both matches will be available to stream on ESPN+.
FRESH LEGS
The Buff & Blue enter Thursday's match with fresh legs following an eight-day break. The Revolutionaries last played on Wednesday, Oct. 4, dropping a 2-0 contest at NJIT. The extended time off allows GW to nurse various injuries that have taken a toll on the team's depth recently and enables the team to lock in for the final stretch of the regular season.
THE REMAINING SLATE
Following the two road matches this week, the Buff & Blue will conclude the regular season with a home contest against Davidson on Thursday, Oct. 19, and a road bout at St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Oct. 22. The match against Davidson will serve as Senior Day for GW and is scheduled to kick-off at 3 p.m. Prior to the match, all seven graduating members of the women's soccer team will be celebrated for their athletic and academic accomplishments. Players to be honored include Tia Harrison, Lauren Prentice, Margaret Rabbitt, Emma Lillback, Elizabeth Cruz, Caitlin Cunningham and Rose Hemans. Following the Senior Day festivities, GW will travel to New York to wrap-up the regular season against St. Bonaventure. Match time against the Bonnies is slated for 1:30 p.m. Both contests will be available to stream on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
Duquesne enters Thursday's match with a 5-5-4 record after most recently playing Saint Joseph's to a scoreless draw. The Dukes sit at sixth in the A-10 standings with 10 points in conference play. They're currently one point clear of Fordham and Rhode Island, who possess the final two spots into the A-10 Championship. Historically, GW holds a 12-8-3 advantage over Duquesne all-time dating back to 1993 when the Dukes rejoined the A-10. Duquesne hasn't defeated GW since the 2017 season has lost three-straight matchups against the Buff & Blue.
This season, Duquesne is led by Brianna Moore who has 10 points on the year. Moore has a team-high five goals on 17 shots to pace the Dukes' offense. Along with Moore, Maya Matesa has also provided a spark for Duquesne's offensive unit. Matesa has seven total points including three goals and one assist. Matesa has a team-high 28 shots on the year and has put 10 on net. Defensively, the Dukes are anchored by Maddy Neundorfer who has started at goalkeeper in all 14 of the team's matches. Neundorfer has 61 saves on the year and currently holds a save percentage of 0.803. In 14 matches, Neundorfer has only allowed 15 goals, giving her a goals-allowed average of 1.17. She also has six shutouts on the season which is tied for the conference lead.

The Patriots are currently on a four-match skid and their lone win this season came against Richmond, defeating the Spiders 1-0 on Sept. 21. Before hosting the Revolutionaries this Sunday, the Patriots will first travel to Dayton for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday night. Since joining the A-10 in 2013, George Mason holds a 5-3-2 advantage over the Buff & Blue. Historically, GW trails the Patriots 3-23-5 dating back to the first meeting between the programs in 1982.
George Mason has tallied three goals this season, each coming from a different player. Rachel Eberly is the lone Patriot with more than two points on the season, sitting at three with one goal and one assist on the year.
