Gymnastics Heads to NC State for First Road Meet of 2023

GW meets host Wolfpack and Pitt on Saturday
WASHINGTON – George Washington gymnastics will begin East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) competition when it visits NC State on Saturday for a tri-meet with Pitt at 4 p.m. inside Reynolds Coliseum. The meet will be available to watch on ACC Network Extra.
SEASON OPENING HIGHSÂ
GW finished second at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational last Sunday, posting its highest season-opening score since 2017 with a 195.300. GW earned a pair of 49.050s on vault and floor, a 48.800 on bars and a 48.400 on beam. Individually, Kendall Whitman was crowned the floor champion with a 9.925. The junior also scored a 9.825 on vault. Deja Chambliss was named co-champion on vault with a 9.900 and Libby Garfoot tied for first on bars with a 9.850.
DAZZLING DEANAÂ
First-year Deana Sheremeta was the only first-year to be among the GW lineup on Sunday, posting a 9.825 on beam and a 9.850 on floor in her collegiate debut. Sheremeta's beam score led the GW rotation and was good enough for fourth overall.
A LOOK AT NC STATEÂ
The Wolfpack are ranked 24th overall and set a program record for its highest season-opening score with a 196.375 in a dual meet with Michigan State last Saturday. NC State was projected to finish second in the EAGL conference and is currently first in the league on beam and floor after two meets.
ABOUT PITTÂ
Pitt's Sidney Washington, Reyna Garvey and Jordyn Ewing swept the week one EAGL awards after a home opening win at the Keystone Classic on Jan. 6. Pitt then finished fourth in a quad meet with Iowa, Cal and Oregon State on Saturday with a 193.650. Pitt was predicted to tie for sixth in the EAGL preseason poll.
