GW set for first of four home meets of the season

WASHINGTON – The George Washington gymnastics team will begin its 2023 home slate on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it welcomes Nebraska, Cornell and William & Mary to the Charles E. Smith Center for the annual Lindsey Ferris Invitational. Live coverage of the meet will be available on ESPN+.

LINDSEY FERRIS
Lindsey Ferris was a four-year performer on the gymnastics team and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in communication in 2001 before serving as a Presidential Administrative Fellow (PAF) while earning her master's degree in forensic science in 2003. Following graduation, she achieved great success by becoming a Special Agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations before her untimely passing.

IN THE COMMUNITY
At each home meet this season, Cards for Hospitalized Kids will have a station set up where fans can create and decorate cards for patients in hospitals across the country. Materials and a box for distribution will be set up outside the box office. Follow Cards For Hospitalized Kids on social media to learn more about the organization.

RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR
After being crowned East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Champions last season, GW's 2022 team will be presented with commemorative championship rings before Sunday's season opener. The Buff & Blue hoisted the EAGL Championship trophy on their home floor after hosting the event on podium, marking the program's third EAGL Championship and first since 2017.

ONE FINAL LAP
Graduate student Deja Chambliss will start her final season in Buff & Blue on Sunday. The co-captain was named the 2022 EAGL Gymnast of the Year and finished her senior season with a trip to NCAA Regionals in the all-around. Chambliss was just the third gymnast in GW gymnastics program history to take home the top honor after finishing the regular season first in the conference on vault (9.895 NQS), floor (9.905 NQS) and tied for first in the all-around (39.240 NQS).

IN THE LINEUP
GW returns 12 letterwinners to its lineup, including Kendall Whitman, who ended her sophomore season with a trip to NCAA Regionals on floor after she finished second in the conference with a 9.890 NQS. Whitman also picked up her second conference selection on vault. Rachel Katz and Sarah Zois also return to this year's lineup after earning All-EAGL recognition on vault.

New faces Kasey Burke, Jayda Freeman, Kylie Kazmierski, Nancy Kiner, Catherine O'Rourke and Deana Sheremeta will don the Buff & Blue for the first time on Sunday.
