Logan Leax drives in two
RICHMOND, Va. - GW baseball was unable to overcome a fast start from VCU on Sunday evening, dropping the series finale to the Rams, 7-2, at The Diamond.
VCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a big second inning. The Rams sent five of its first six batters to the plate and scored four runs thanks to an RBI single and RBI triple. VCU would ultimately knock GW starter Justin Solt out of the contest in the process.
The Colonials got two runs back in the top of the third thanks to an RBI single from Logan Leax. However, VCU tacked on insurance in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run. The Rams would add one more run in the fifth, wrapping up the 7-2 win and the series sweep.
Offensively, the Colonials managed seven hits against the Rams, with both Leax and Ty Acker having two hits apiece. On the mound, Trevor Kuncl threw 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.
GW will have the beginning of the week off before returning to action next weekend at George Mason. The series will begin Friday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
