The Colonials and Patriots renew the Revolutionary Rivalry in Fairfax on Friday at 3 p.m.
WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball will make the short trek to Fairfax this weekend to face off with George Mason in the second to last A-10 series of the year. Friday's opener is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Spuhler Field, followed by a game Saturday at 2 p.m. with the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT:
GW baseball was unable to overcome a fast start from VCU's offense last Sunday, dropping the series finale to the Rams, 7-2. Following the series sweep at the hands of VCU, the Colonials now sit at 8-10 in the A-10.
TREVOR TIME:
Last weekend in Richmond, GW's closer Trevor Kuncl got the job down on the mound, but also lent his services to the offense for the first time this season. Kuncl started Saturday's game in left field and batted ninth in the GW order, picking up a base hit and scoring a run. The base hit was Kuncl's first since 2019, while the run scored was the fifth of his career.
As for his work on the mound, Kuncl was dominant as usual. The graduate student allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings of work while striking out three.
THE MEN OF MAY:
Through the first four games of the month, GW's offense has relied heavily on the services of Noah Levin and Derek Ripp. Entering this weekend's series, both Nevin and Ripp are hitting over .400 in May, and are ranked first and second on the team in hits this month. Additionally, Levin leads the team with an impressive 1.101 OPS through the first four games of May.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS:
George Mason enters this weekend's games at 18-29, but the Patriots are 9-9 in the A-10 and sit in sixth in the conference standings. Offensively, the Patriots are led by impressive first-year duo Brett Ahalt and Connor Dykstra. Currently, Ahalt leads the team with a .354 batting average and is second on the team in OPS (.948). Meanwhile, Dykstra leads the team in homers (6) and slugging percentage (.504), and is second on the team with 30 RBIs.
