Colonials tally seven hits on Friday
FAIRFAX, Va. - George Washington baseball was unable to overcome back-to-back two-run innings from George Mason, falling to the Patriots, 7-3, on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
The Colonials struck first against Mason, scoring their first run in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Anthony Frechette. However, in the bottom of the frame, Danny Hosley went deep to tie the game. Following a walk and throwing error, Mason would add another run in the fourth on a single to take a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth, the Patriots would put together their second straight two-run inning against GW starter Harrison Cohen, scoring on a sac-fly and RBI single to go ahead 4-1.
While the Buff & Blue were able to cut the lead in half thanks to a sac-fly by Frechette, the Patriots would add three more insurance runs in seventh and eighth to wrap up the 7-3 win.
Offensively, the Colonials recorded seven hits on Friday, with Noah Levin, Derek Ripp, and Mike Ludowig each tallying two base knocks apiece. Friday was the first game back in the lineup for Ludowig, who had missed the past four weeks due to injury.
Up next, George Washington will look to take the second game of its three-game series against George Mason on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
