Fergus leads the way with first team honors
WASHINGTON -Â George Washington baseball earned a collection of postseason accolades from the Atlantic 10, the conference announced on Wednesday.Â
Senior outfielder Cade Fergus was named to the All-Conference First Team, while graduate student pitcher Harrison Cohen took home All-Conference Second Team honors. Additionally, first-year infielder Ty Acker and redshirt sophomore pitcher Logan Koester were named to the conference's All-Rookie Team.Â
Fergus capped off his senior campaign with his first postseason award. The Plantation, Fla., native enjoyed a dominant season at the dish, slashing .315/.405/.601 while crushing 13 home runs and compiling 128 total bases. In addition to finishing in the top-10 in homers and total bases, Fergus also ended the year ranked ninth in the A-10 runs (55) and fourth in doubles (20).Â
Cohen finished up his five-year GW career with his first postseason award. GW's Friday night starter ended the year with seven wins, including four in A-10 play, while pitching to a 3.92 ERA. Cohen ended the season ranked in the top-10 in five conference pitching categories, including ranking first in innings pitched (87.1) and second in strikeouts (93). During the season, Cohen took home one A-10 Pitcher of the Week award after tossing eight scoreless innings and tying his career-high in strikeouts with 11 against Dayton.Â
Acker polished off his first year in the Buff & Blue with his first postseason honor. Starting 40 games across multiple positions this season, Acker slashed .292/.370/.396 during his first campaign. He was especially dominant during conference play, batting .325 with 25 hits, two homers and 11 RBIs. During the year, Acker took home one A-10 Rookie of the Week award.Â
Koester rebounded nicely in 2022 after missing all of last season with an injury. The Merrick, N.Y., native hurled 53.1 innings and set down 22 batters on strikes. In GW's final game of the season, Koester put together a masterful performance, throwing 7.1 scoreless innings and striking out four on his way to a win vs. UMass.
