The Colonials and Minutemen battle for a spot in the A-10 Championship
WASHINGTON - George Washington baseball wraps up its regular season this weekend when it hosts UMass at Tucker Field in a critical three-game set to determine A-10 Championship qualification. The series will get underway on Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by games on Friday at 12 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Coverage of all three contests is available on ESPN+.
POSTSEASON CHASE:
Entering the weekend, GW sits at 8-13 in the A-10 standings. The Colonials are just one game behind Richmond, Dayton and Fordham, who are all 9-12 and are tied for the seventh and final playoff spot.
TAKE ME OUT TO THE (BASKET)BALL GAME:
On Thursday, GW men's basketball coach Chris Caputo and women's basketball coach Caroline McCombs are scheduled to throw dual first pitches. The first pitch will take place at 2:50 p.m., and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 2:45 p.m. Tickets to Thursday's contest can be purchased at getgwtix.com, and fans can use the promo code GWHOOPS to receive a discount on their ticket order (promotion is only available in advance).
SENIOR DAY SENDOFF:
Before Saturday's series finale, the Colonials will honor a cavalcade of seniors and graduate students who helped make a significant impact on the GW baseball program. The Colonials will recognize 12 student-athletes on Saturday: Cade Fergus, Harrison Cohen, Noah Levin, Anthony Frechette, Justin Solt, Trevor Kuncl, Derek Ripp, Mike Ludowig, Rich Pfluger, Chris Knight, Jon Brus and Jack Horn. The ceremony is scheduled to get underway at 11:15 a.m.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN:
UMass enters this weekend series at 21-24-1 and 7-14 in conference play. While the Minutemen still have a chance at A-10 Championship qualification, their aspirations were dealt a blow last weekend when they were swept at VCU and outscored in the series 50-6.
Cole Hebble has been the Minutemen's catalyst this season, ranking seventh in the A-10 in batting average (.370), and leading the team in hits (67) and extra base hits (26).
