Noah Levin goes 3-for-3
ARLINGTON, Va. - George Washington baseball was unable to put together another late-inning rally on Sunday, falling to Rhode Island 5-3 at Tucker Field.
The Rams started Sunday's scoring, and for the fifth time during the series their runs came via the long ball. With two men on and two outs in the second, Jack Cucinotta hit a three-run homer off Colonials starter Justin Solt. One inning later, URI added another run with a sac-fly.
In the seventh, GW was able to halve the deficit when Ty Acker deposited a two-run homer over the fence in right. However, the Rams pushed the lead back up to three in the ninth after Anthony DePino scored on a wild pitch.
In the final frame, GW added another run thanks to an RBI single from Derek Ripp, before bringing the winning run to the plate with two outs. Unfortunately, the rally was cut short by Rams' closer Zach Fernandez, who got the Colonials to fly out to right field.
GW once again received an effective outing from their bullpen, as five relievers combined to allow just one run across six innings. Logan Koester led the way with 2.2 scoreless frames.
Offensively, Noah Levin went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while Derek Ripp finished the day 2-for-5 with an RBI.
George Washington will now rest up before taking on VCU this upcoming weekend in Richmond. That series gets underway on Friday, May 6th at 6:05 p.m.
